Wilderness Starguard Instructor Training in Cullowhee

Instructors Justin Padgett and Justin Doroshenko taught a Wilderness StarGuard® Instructor Training course here in Cullowhee.  Students learned how to keep their eyes and ears out for people in danger or in need of rescue.  During one of the mock rescues one of Landmark Semester students, Chad Romeo found he was tangled in fishing line, and discovered at the end of that line was a catfish in need of rescue.

WEMT: Week 2

It was a strong week two! Clinicals are rolling with real life situations that a week ago were only ideas, and stories we heard about in class.  We're tired, days and nights too short but time was managed and we grew as care givers.  Daily, our ability to recognize and perform skills improves, with a sole purpose of providing care that is expected and entrusted to us by our patients and their family.  We have another week to prepare for testing.  Bring it on!

SWR at Woodberry's

Woodberry's outdoor education program is hosting Landmark Learning out of North Carolina for a two day swift water rescue course. Week One: EMT in Cullowhee

Perfect weather in the mountains was the backdrop for our first week on the pathway to EMT. Lots of firsts for many of us. First real patient assessments, first full set of vital signs, first time learning to assist patients with their 

medications, and the first time setting foot in an EMS ambulance and working with EMS equipment. Wow, and so much more to come in week two!
