A one-day workshop that covers the essential topics of river rescue. Information is tied together at the end of the course with a mock rescue scenario. Course objectives will include:

Leave No Trace Master Educator

Please Note: The Master Educator course is not designed to provide instruction on backcountry living skills. The backcountry aspect of the experience is meant to provide relevance to the curriculum, through practicing Leave No Trace techniques and methods, observing examples of impact, and creating an awareness of use and its purposes. The course itinerary is very full, and does not allow time for teaching how to light stoves, cook, purify water, and set up tents, for example.

Wilderness StarGuard® Instructor Training

After satisfactory completion of the Wilderness StarGuard® program, participants can take this additional three-day training to become an Instructor candidate of the program. Apprenticeships follow, before the Instructor candidates are able to offer these programs on their own under the auspices of the Starfish Aquatics Institute. Contact our office for more information and updated course availability.

Wilderness StarGuard®

The Wilderness StarGuard® is a cutting edge course designed to meet the needs of wilderness trip leaders with a focus on prevention. This remote application to aquatic rescue courses can be taken alone as a primary training, as an add-on module to the StarGuard® course, or as a module for current lifeguards.

Site assessment, swimmer assessment, and improvising lifeguarding equipment are key components that differentiate this course from traditional waterfront courses.

Wilderness Medicine for the Professional Practitioner

The 2-day module is pre-approved for 16 hours of Basic EMT continuing education units (CEUs) by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS). Through joint sponsorship with the Wilderness Medical Society physicians may earn 16 hours of category 1 CME's for participation in the Wilderness Medicine for the Professional Practitioner course.
