Course Logistics

Meals:
DOWNSTREAM-MEALS Not included - town is 10 minutes from our base, with ample restaurants and grocery store options. Available for student use is a standard refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and hot water urn. Most students bring camp stoves to cook within a budget under our outdoor cooking pavilion.

Lodging/Camping:
DOWNSTREAM-LODGING Camping (bring your own gear) or bunk space (bring your sleeping bag and pillow) is available by reservation for. Camping is on a pad near the parking lot and classroom. The bunkhouses are located a 10-minute walk up the mountain. You may also camp in your vehicle. Any overnight stay grants access to the kitchen amenities and indoor showers. $135: Camping or Bunkhouse Arrival is from 12PM-9PM the day before the course starts, and is self-checkin. Housing assignments and the grounds orientation will be on the desk at the front of the classroom. Feel free to arrive the next morning before class begins at 8AM. Students must be packed and moved out prior to 8AM on the last day of the course.

Transportation:

Contact Rachel at 828-293-5384 to authorize the release of your contact information to other students in the course who may be interested in carpooling.

Other Pertinent Info:
This is an instructor level course. Candidates should have an appropriate skill and knowledge level of river risk management and safety prior to taking this course. Additional familiarity with the ACA Canoe curriculum is a bonus. Candidates may be awarded a level of instructorship lower than the stated level of this course, based on skills shown while in this course. Candidates will need to be current Instructor Members of the American Canoe Association before the course starts. Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will also need to pay SEIC fees in the amount of $25 to the ACA before receiving their certification card.
